Barnstormers win third straight

TORONTO – With fifth place locked up, the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers ended their regular season with a 6-5 win in Toronto on Sunday.

Spencer Marcus went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in the victory, Chatham’s third straight. Seth Strong and Josh Williams each hit two-run home runs. Strong finished with 16 longballs to lead the IBL. Braxton Haggith had three hits and scored once, while Anthony Polowick singled and doubled.

Eric Pettipiece (2-3) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. He walked one and struck out one. Chatham used nine pitchers, with Garret Day tossing a scoreless inning to pick up his fifth save.

The Barnstormers end their first regular season with a 20-22 record.

Marcus Knecht had two hits and two RBI for the Leafs (17-25), who enter playoffs as the seventh seed. Jordan Castaldo went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Justin Marra drove in a run.

Max Lanoue (1-1) gave up four runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss. Toronto starting pitcher Sam Green went four scoreless innings and scattered five hits while striking out four.
