Barnstormers win second straight

TORONTO – Robert Mackie’s solo home run in the top of the eighth inning broke a 4-4 tie and helped the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers edge Toronto 6-4 Sunday afternoon at Christie Pits.

Mackie also doubled and scored three times as Chatham moved to 2-0. Miles Norman drove in two, and Jalen Butcher and Mitsuki Fukuda both had an RBI.

Sam McKinlay (1-0) picked up the win in relief. He allowed one earned run on one hit over two innings, walking two and striking out one. Garret Day pitched a perfect ninth for his first save.

Barnstormers’ starter Kenny Williams went six innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Johnathan Solazzo hit a solo blast for the Leafs (0-3). Jordan Castaldo drove in two on two hits and Marcus Knecht had an RBI.

Dean Christidis took the loss, yielding two runs on two hits in an inning of relief. He walked one and struck out one. Toronto starter Jesse Hodges struck out four over four scoreless innings.
