Barnstormers win in 12th
CHATHAM – Anthony Polowick’s pinch-hit single scored Robert Mackie for the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning as Chatham-Kent beat Guelph 7-6 on Sunday at Fergie Jenkins Field.
Trailing by one, Spencer Morin tied the game with a double that scored Seth Strong. Braxton Haggith was intentionally walked, bringing Polowick to the plate.
Torrin Vaselenak, Greg Kemble, Trent Sillett and Spencer Marcus drove in the other runs.
Sadler Goodwin (1-0) benefitted in relief, giving up two unearned runs on two hits over two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Chatham-Kent starting pitcher Eric Pettipiece was touched for three runs (two earned) on two hits in three innings. He also walked one and struck out two.
The Barnstormers improved to 18-22.
Frankin Torres hit a solo home run for the Royals (22-15). Justice Magee drove in two, while Ethan Hammond and Garrett Takamatsu both had an RBI. J.D. Williams had two hits and stole a base.
Brandon Deans (1-1) gave up three runs (one earned) to take the loss. He was the third Barnstormers reliever to follow Drew Durst, who went five innings and allowed a run on one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts.
