Barnstormers sweep doubleheader

CHATHAM – Chatham-Kent swept Hamilton in a doubleheader Saturday at Fergie Jenkins Field.

In the opener, Seth Strong singled and hit a solo home run in Chatham’s 2-1 win. Chatham’s other run came on an error.

Eric Pettipiece (1-1) went five innings for the Barnstormers, allowing a run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Garret Day recorded the last four outs for his third save.

Brandon Nicholson drove in the Cardinals’ lone run. Danny Berg singled and stole a base.

Hamilton starting pitcher Takaki Eguchi (5-2) yielded two runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out three.

Strong did it again in the second game, an 8-4 win. He singled, homered and drove in three. Spencer Marcus, Braxton Haggith and Trent Sillett all had an RBI. Daniel Battel went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Catalin Morin (1-0) allowed an unearned run in 3.1 innings of relief for the win. He walked one and struck out three. Aden Ryan started and went 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with four walks and a strikeout.

Chatham improved to 11-15.

For Hamilton (11-13), Berg, Luis Bernardo, Dennis Dei Baning and Brandon Nicholson all drove in a run.

Mizuki Akatsuka (2-1) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk in two innings.
