Barnstormers sweep Baycats in twinbill
CHATHAM – Chatham-Kent swept Barrie in a doubleheader Sunday.
Spencer Morin’s bases-clearing double in the sixth inning of Game 1 was the big blow in the Barnstormers’ 7-2 win. Morin scored on Torrin Vaselenak’s triple, and Evan Morrison cashed Vaselenak with a single to cap the five-run frame.
Vaselenak and Morrison also drove in a run in the fifth inning to pull the Barnstormers even.
Willy Garcia went 2-for-3 with a solo home run for the Baycats. Tristan Clarke singled twice and scored.
Aden Ryan (1-1) notched the win on the mound after four shutout innings of relief. He scattered three hits and struck out three. Starter Brock Whitson went the first three innings and allowed two runs on four hits with a walk and strikeout.
Ramon Henriquez (0-1) took the loss after giving up three runs in two-thirds of an inning. He didn’t allow a hit but walked four. Juan Benitez started and allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. He walked two and fanned five.
In Game 2, Yushin Ohta hit a solo home run in Chatham’s 7-4 win. Owen Constantineau doubled home a pair of runs, Braxton Haggith drove in a run, and Morrison went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Yuri Yokoyama (3-0) pitched five innings for the win. He was charged with two runs (one earned) on five hits with a walk and five punchouts. Eric Pettipiece retired the last two Baycats for the save.
Cesar Rosado took the loss. All five runs he allowed were unearned thanks to three Barrie errors. He scattered three hits over two innings while walking one and striking out two.
Chatham improved to 10-7, and Barrie dropped to 7-8.
