Barnstormers strike late in win

CHATHAM – Evan Morrison’s two-run blast highlighted a four-run eighth inning for Chatham-Kent in Saturday’s 7-4 home win over Kitchener.  

Yushin Ohta went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Spencer Marcus singled twice and scored twice, and Sadler Goodwin drove in a run as the Barnstormers moved to 19-16.  

Eric Pettipiece (2-2) struck out the side in the top of the eighth to earn the win. Garret Day registered the save with a scoreless ninth. 

Matteo Zeppieri went 2-for-5 with a solo home run for the Panthers (14-22). Trent Lawson also had two hits and an RBI, Yunior Ibarra singled three times, and Runta Osawa added a sacrifice fly. 

Panthers’ reliever Danny Garcia (1-1) was charged with four runs on three hits and a walk in the eighth inning. Evan Elliott started on the mound and gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings. He walked two and recorded six punchouts.
