Barnstormers strike late in Welland

WELLAND – Chatham-Kent scored seven runs in the last three innings of an 11-7 win on Saturday in Welland 

Braxton Haggith, Sadler Goodwin and Yushin Ohta all homered and drove in two for the Barnstormers (16-13). Spencer Marcus went 3-for-6 with three RBI, Evan Morrison went 4-for-6, finishing a home run short of the cycle, and scored three times, and Owen Constantineau singled twice and scored.  

Catalin Morin (1-0) recorded five outs in relief to earn the win. He scattered three hits. Chatham-Kent starting pitcher Yuri Yokoyama was pulled with one out in the six and gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits. He walked two and struck out one.  

Brandon Hupe hit a two-run single for Welland (22-8). Gianfranco Morello and Pier-Olivier Boucher each had two hits and an RBI, Greyson Barrett drove in a run, Robert Mullen had an RBI and scored twice, and Brendan Luther went 2-for-5.  

Euclides Leyer (4-1) took the loss after yielding a run on three hits in two innings. He walked one and struck out two. Ben Abram started and went 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with a walk and four punchouts.
