Barnstormers score late to beat Leafs

CHATHAM – Spencer Morin’s RBI single with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 7-7 tie and sent the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers to a 9-7 home win over Toronto on Monday evening.

Mitsuki Fukuda was the offensive star for Chatham-Kent (8-13). He went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Seth Strong drove in two, Daniel Battel singled twice and scored twice, and Spencer Marcus had two hits, three runs and an RBI.

Noah Richardson (3-0) allowed an unearned run in relief to pick up the win. He walked three and struck out one. Brock Whitson struck out two in two scoreless innings to earn his first save.

Chatham-Kent starter Aden Ryan was touched for four runs (three earned) on 10 hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Johnathan Solazzo hit a pair of solo home runs for the Leafs (7-15). Charlie Towers went 3-for-4 with three RBI, Joe Vinicio drove in a run, Connor Lewis had three hits, Ryan Dos Santos singled twice and scored four times, and Jesse Hodges went 2-for-4.

Marek Deska (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits in an inning. Toronto starter Angel Castro lasted six innings and gave up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with two walks and nine punchouts.
