Barnstormers hang on to beat Red Sox

BRANTFORD – Chatham-Kent raced out to an eight-run lead in the first inning and held on for an 8-7 win Monday in Brantford.

Braxton Haggith hit a three-run home run five batters into the game, and Robert Mackie followed with a solo blast. Spencer Marcus hit a two-run double, while Daniel Battel and Mitsuki Fukuda each had an RBI.

Catalin Morin tossed 1.2 innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed a run on two hits and struck out three. Barnstormers’ starter Aden Ryan was pulled with one out in the fifth and was charged with six runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out three.

Nick Cardinal fanned two of the three hitters he faced for his first save as Chatham-Kent moved to 14-16.

For Brantford (9-20), Evan Ryan drilled a three-run home run in the fourth inning to pull the Red Sox within two. Nick Burdett stroked two-run single and Gus Wilson added an RBI.

Gregor Farquharson (0-3) yielded eight runs (five earned) on nine hits in two innings. He also struck out two.
