Barnstormers end Royals’ streak
GUELPH – Braxton Haggith drove in all four Chatham-Kent runs, and the Barnstormers ended Guelph’s four-game win streak with a 4-2 victory on Tuesday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.
The Barnstormers’ left-fielder hit a two-run single to open the scoring in the fourth inning and then drove in a pair with two outs in the eighth, which was the difference.
Yushin Ohta went 2-for-4 for Chatham-Kent, which improved to 3-5.
Barnstormers’ starting pitcher Yuri Yokoyama (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings for the win. He scattered three hits, walked three and struck out two. Closer Garret Day locked down his first save after giving up a run on three hits and a walk. He stranded the tying run at first base.
Andy Leader had the lone RBI for Guelph, which dropped to 4-3 after a hot stretch to start the season. Liam Wilson went 3-for-4, and Garrett Takamatsu singled twice.
Connor King suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in 2.1 innings. He relieved Niall Windeler, who recorded the first five outs and only allowed one hit.
