ALL-STAR DE OLEO RE-SIGNS WITH MAJORS

The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of catcher Eduardo de Oleo, an IBL all-star in 2023 who displayed an MVP-calibre bat when healthy.

de Oleo will return for his second season in a Majors uniform after an impressive debut that included batting .333 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs in just 27 regular season games en route to being named a first-team all-star at the catcher position.

A native of San Juan de la Magua, Dominican Republic, de Oleo spent several seasons in affiliated baseball, beginning in the New York Yankees organization from 2011 to 2015. After a stint in the Arizona Diamondbacks system, he moved on to Houston, where he reached as high as Triple-A in both 2017 and 2018.

“de Oleo is a very talented ballplayer, both at the plate and behind the dish,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “He hits the ball well to all fields – both for average and power – and he has a very strong arm that keeps baserunners honest.

In some ways, de Oleo’s tantalizing talent wasn’t fully realized last summer, as the 31-year-old dealt with some injuries that kept him off the field for 15 of London’s 42 regular season contests. Despite that, he finished tied for third in the league in home runs and was ninth in RBIs. On a per-at-bat basis, he actually led the IBL in long balls.

“If we can keep de Oleo healthy this summer, which will be key, he’s capable of putting up tremendous numbers in this league,” Chanderdat said. “And he has natural leadership skills, which will be a great asset to our pitching staff.”

The veteran catcher has spent this past offseason playing winter ball for the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League.

“I’m very excited to be coming back to London,” said de Oleo. “I was disappointed that I wasn’t 100% healthy last year. So, this year, I want to stay healthy and help this team get back to the top.”
