Abram goes the distance against Leafs

WELLAND – A two-hour rain delay didn’t dampen Ben Abram.

The Welland Jackfish right-hander struck out 11 in a complete-game 10-0 shutout over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday afternoon. Abram (2-0) scattered four hits and walked two as Welland improved to 3-2.

Steven Moretto was the offensive star, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI. Ethan Hunt drove in two on three hits, Matteo Porcellato singled, tripled and drove in a run, and Robert Mullen and Dawson Tweet each had an RBI.

Justin Marra singled twice for the Leafs, who dropped to 1-5.

Wilgenis Alvarado (0-2) was lifted with one out in the third inning. He was charged with eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
