2025 Postseason FAQ's

The following is a list of frequently asked questions as we near the signing deadline and postseason

Signing Deadline

The Last Monday in July at 11:59 pm is the signing deadline for all teams to make their last roster additions and changes to be eligible for the postseason.

Players who are released by an IBL club by 11:59 pm can sign with another IBL club within 48 hours, provided that club had an open roster spot as of the deadline.  A team cannot release a player after that point and sign another unsigned player.

Playoff Qualification Requirements

In order to fully qualify for postseason play,  the following requirements must be met

To qualify as a position player,  a player must have a minimum of 24 plate appearances in the IBL this season

To qualify as a pitcher,  a player must have a minimum of 10 Innings pitched and a minimum of 5 appearances in the IBL this season

22U Affiliated Players as long as they were both on their club's roster by the OBA signing deadline and listed on the IBL club's affiliate roster, they are eligible for postseason.

Regular Season Ties

Top 8 teams in the IBL qualify for postseason play.

Ties in the standings are resolved by head-to-head records in the regular season, followed by runs for and against in those head-to-head games. If teams are still tied, a coin flip will determine the higher seed.

Ties for first place, there is a one-game sudden-victory to determine the pennant winner.  When there are more than two teams tied (2022 for example  head-to-head records of the tied teams are used, followed by runs for and against, with the remaining teams to determine the pennant game host)

Postseason Playoff Format

Teams are seeded 1-8 based on their regular-season finish.  1st plays 8th, 2 vs. 7  3 vs. 6  and 4 vs.5  in the 1/4 final round in a Best of Five

After the 1/4 Final Round Teams are re-seeded based on their regular season records.   The top remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed, while the other 2 pair off in a Best of Five.

The Final Two Teams play a best-of-seven series, with the Higher Seed hosting four games and the lower seed hosting three, if necessary.

Batting Champion and Pitcher of the Year

The Reid Buck Memorial Trophy is awarded following each regular season to the hitter finishing the season with the best batting average.

The Ted Earley Memorial Trophy is awarded following each regular season to the pitcher with the lowest Earned Run Average that meets the innings per team game requirements.
