Six-run second sparks Majors in Game 1

LONDON – A six-run second inning sparked the London Majors in a 12-2 win over Toronto in Game 1 of the Dominico Cup final Tuesday night at Labatt Park.


Keith Kandel’s bases-loaded walk opened the scoring, and Jakob Newton drove in two with a single. Kandel scored on Taylor Wright’s single, and Cleveland Brownlee doubled home a pair of runs to cap the bat-around inning.


Starling Joseph went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs, Byron Reichstein drove in a run on two hits and scored twice, Andrew Lawrence picked up an RBI and Austin Wilkie went 2-for-5 with a run.


Owen Boon (2-0) struck out 13 over seven innings for the win. He gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Angel Castro (2-1) took the loss. He was charged with six runs on six hits over five innings. He walked two and fanned four.


Jose Vinicio and Marcus Knecht drove in the Leafs’ runs. Dan Marra singled twice and scored.


Game 2 is Thursday at Christie Pits.
