Royals take down Baycats

GUELPH – The Guelph Royals put a dent in Barrie’s pennant hopes with an 8-2 win over the Baycats on Tuesday at David E. Hastings Stadium. 

Josh Garton went 3-for-3 with a solo home run to lead the Royals (17-20), who are tied for fifth place with Hamilton. Conner Morro added a solo home run and RBI single, Ashton Patterson tripled, singled and drove in two, Kyle Kush went 3-for-3 with two RBI and J.D. Williams drove in a run. 

Claudio Custodio (2-0) allowed two unearned runs over seven innings to pick up the win. He scattered six hits, walked four and struck out 10. At the plate, he collected two hits and scored twice. 

Baycats starter Evan Soules (3-3) took the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out three. 

Carson Burns tripled home a pair of runs to provide the Baycats’ offence. Royce Ando went 3-for-4 and scored once. 

Barrie (23-12) trails first-place Welland by two games.
